Friends Til the End with Okkervil River

I am obsessed with the new Okkervil River album, The Stage Names. I'm not, however, very good at writing about music that I love -- I tend to get too overwhelmed with adoration and can't put it into words, which is a shame, considering it is actually my job to be able to put things into words. So, instead, I think my feelings for the album can be best expressed through the lyrics from "Does Anybody Hear Me?" as performed by Shannen Doherty in the Lifetime Movie presentation, "Friends 'Til the End," about a woman who's position as frontwoman of a hot college band is nearly stolen by a sexy psycho from her past:

"Well I can't blame the rain, For all of my pain, And I can't blame the clouds, And I can't blame the sky, Be jealous of the birds that fly, Does anybody hear me? Does anybody hear me? Does anybody hear me? Does anybody hear me? Because I don't. Because I don't."

Ok so, maybe not. Anyway, I love the album. And since I couldn't find any good video featuring a song from it, here's something pretty great from La Blogotheque, in which solo Will Sheff plays "Song of Our So-Called Friend," one of my favorite songs from their last (amazing) album, Black Sheep Boy.

PS -- to hear the musical stylings of Ms. Doherty, complete with introductory hysterics from her rival band-mate, click here.

Yep, that Shannen D.

I really, really want to go see them when they come to NYC, but it just happens to be the same night as our good friends' rehearsal dinner, and i'm a bridesmaid, so it seems as if Mr. Sheff and co. will have to go on without me.

Well, I am a big talker and a small (?) do-er ... Okkervil River is here the night after I get back from Austin/ACL Fest. Last time this happened, I got back from Bonnaroo and was so exahausted I wimped out on going down to the Biograph and stalking people to get into the sold-out RA show. And I think we all know stalking and RA goes hand in hand for me ...
